birth control for the first time?

Background: I’m 19 and I’ve never taken birth control in my life. I avoided it mainly because I have a stereotypical asian mother (who happens to be a scientist) who said things like “natural is best,” and “have to get rid of your monthly impurities.” But I talked to my doctor and she said these are all myths basically.

I have low estrogen levels. No, tests have not been taken to prove this but I know I do because I have these symptoms: very dry, itchy rough skin that is resilient to moisturizer and skin care products, brittle nails (sort of), oral dryness (dry mouth), very coarse hair that is falling out, less alert, and futhermore I’m not even getting my period! What could’ve caused this is a not so ideal diet, having recently lost 15 lbs. etc. and I mention this because I see dieting/weight loss connected to low estrogen levels/period issues on net articles.

I have been prescribed orthotricyclen lo. Today is saturday the 11th…

1.) am I supposed to begin sunday though and cannot begin today???
2.) Am I supposed to begin the day I get my period again? It says that if it is your first time, wait until your period but I remember my doctor saying it can be taken immediately so someone shed some light on this. I’m confused.
3.) Do you open the bag and put the pill ring inside the little compact thing? What coloured pill do you start with first??????? why are green inactive pills without hormones taken?

somebody help! I need to save my skin and my hair and femininity in general!
what is the reasoning behind waiting for the first day of your period though? why is that suggested/stated???

Hello! I've been on the mini-pill since having my first child 18 months ago. Since then I have experienced the not so wonderful side effects such as hair loss, oily scalp, acne & a COMPLETE loss of my sex drive.

I'm trying to make the decision whether or not to go off of the pill and resort to the Fertility Awareness Method along with the use of condoms or abstenence during my fertile time. My question: Does the mini-pill alter my natural cycle? meaning when I stop taking it will my current cycle change making it difficult or impossible for me to use this method effectively? I really am not ready for another child right now, however I would like to start trying again about this time next year. Am I taking too much of a risk of getting pregnant if I try this or should I just continue to take the pill and deal with these awful side effects?

Also, I can' be on any form of birth control that contains estrogen, that leaves me with no other option besides Fertility Awareness.

She is a high risk for cancer. What are some remedies that deal with this naturally?

What to do to prevent hair loss in women?

My mom has more of hypothyroidism, and effect of this is the hair loss. You very happy about this, and can be done with all the help and advice they can get. Are there any home remedies / medicines / treatments to stop hair loss. Any and all advice is appreciated. Thank you!

Tell your mother to go see the doctor and ask to be referred to a Tricoligist (specialist in loss hair). This happened to me years ago after the birth of my second child.

I'm 16 years old, Female
5'5 108 pounds (I know I'm underweight, I'm trying to gain weight)

I have quite a lot of health problems but we haven't found any causes for them!!!! Please help, even if you know just a little bit about one of my health problems…

*I have been to: a gynecologist, cardiologist, electrophysicologist, and an endocrynologist

1. I have 12 benign thyroid nodules. Normal TSH. Small (mm) Have NOT shrunk/grew in a year. Next ultrasound is in a year

2. Premature Ventricular Contractions. Had echo: normal (but mild flattning of septal motion????) Holter Monitor: shows PVC's EKG : Normal; sometimes sinus tachycardia–shows my heart is "tired".

3. HAD severe anemia 2 years ago (hemoglobin 5.6). Hospitalized, two blood transfusions. First noticed PVCs. Cause of PVC's: anemia. (now that I have a 13.5 hemoglobin which is normal, I STILL get pvc's.)

4. Very very heavy periods–had ultrasound-Normal. Periods caused the anemia. Was on BC pills for a year which helped heavy periods, recently stopped because I don't want to be on them anymore. I want a new treatment.

5. Low Estrogen–doctor says I have estrogen of a "12 year old." Low estrogen is supposed to cause little to no periods. I still have very heavy periods……

6. Blood pressure–I have normal blood pressure, but when I stand up, I can feel my heart beating through my ears/neck. Electrophysiologist says cause: dehydration

7. Had a tramatic past (being hospitalized, sudden death of parent) Been told I have anxiety..even though I don't always feel anxious. I am always under a lot of stress.

8. Sometimes I have acid reflux…never diagnosed of that though

9. I have cold intolerance. The heat is always on in my room. Family can't handle it, only I can.

10. Heart rate fluctuates during the day. Sometimes it's rapid, other times it's in the 60's

11. Major fatigue..NOT anemic

12. Hair loss. I don't have any bald spots, but when mom vacummed in my room, there was a whole head of hair picked up by it. Friends always notice that I'm losing hair. Always find hair on the floor

13. Sometimes, I have to take DEEP breaths or else I'll feel like I don't have enough air in my lungs. I don't have asthma

Note: I don't have allergies, but certain times of the year, It's very hard to breathe (can't get a satisfying deep breath). Doctor put me on singulair. Causes major PVC's–took me off of it. But singulair seemed to help. Don't know if it was all in my head??? I am a huge worrier. Mitral Valve Prolapse runs in the family, even though Echo was normal.

Question: Give me some insight on ANY of these. And if any of them are connected. Biggest concern is thyroid nodules: common in adolescents???? HELP!??

THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!!!!!!!
I have had NUMEROUS CBC blood tests..does that exclude Celiac Disease?? Or do I need to order a certain blood test..???

I am interested in natural remedies first then prescription if I have to. But I have concerns about HRT and possible side effects or risks associated with taking it.
Also anything that others have found make them worse too I would like to hear about.

I am 30 yrs old and I have PCOD. This makes it impossibly difficult for me to stay on a diet and exercise routine. I have to lose 100 pounds so that I can hopefully soon conceive. Recently, I lost 5 pounds in a matter of a week by staying on a diet consisting of fruits, steamed vegetables, fish, chicken, etc. I briskly walked on the treadmill for 30 mins once a day. But sooner or later I always fall off the wagon, and that's where I'm stuck. To top that, I have a voracious sweet tooth.

Its so hard for me to get back to exercising. And if I don't exercise, I make very poor food choices. Its a vicious cycle I cant seem to break from.
Is there anyone who was or is in the same situation? How did you overcome it? How did you lose the weight? The hormonal imbalance I'm plagued with (no estrogen and an overload of testosterone) has given me other symptoms such as excessive hair-loss and facial hair. I feel disgustingly fat, ugly, and completely hopeless.

What are some good weight-loss pills I could use (for a placebo effect)or something else that will aid in my weight-loss struggle? Please help. I am desperate and at the end of my tether. Thanks so much.
